That seems unnecessarily gruesome for such a lighthearted and even lighter-headed fantasy. Along comes a Tyrannosaurus rex and, chomp, the little boy is a goner. That includes, in the repetitious two-hour premiere tonight (at 8 on Channel 7), a little boy who's outdoors playing ball. It's tentatively recommendable to undemanding kids with a caveat to their parents: The meanest of the dinosaurs have a bad habit of eating people. It's not as if anyone was breathless with anticipation, is it?īasically, "Dinotopia" is just one long chase that's occasionally interrupted for an argument. Introduced last year as a two-part movie special, ABC's "Dinotopia" was originally to premiere weeks ago with other new fall shows, but the unexpected transplanting of "Monk" from its USA Network home to a berth in the ABC prime-time schedule delayed the arrival. "Dinotopia" as a weekly show is no dino-dopier than "Dinotopia" was as a miniseries - but no smarter, either.
